Manchester United FC have bean dealt a massive injury blow ahead of their Champions League campaign.
Manchester United have been drawn in Group H alongside Galatasaray, CFR Cluj and SC Braga, but former Blackburn Rovers star Phil Jones will not be appearing any time soon.
Their opening game of the 2012-13 campaign will see them take on Turkish champions Galatasaray at Old Trafford.
The versatile Jones, who has not featured in the Premier League yet this season because of a back problem, will be out until the middle of November at least after undergoing knee surgery.
A United club spokesman said: “Phil Jones has had surgery on a knee meniscus tear that will require six to eight weeks of rehabilitation.”
Jones will now miss United’s first four Champions League matches, while Chris Smalling is still on the sidelines following a broken metatarsal.
Manchester United and Galatasaray have had a chequered past having clashed in the Champions League on numerous occasions. Over the years we have seen fighting in the tunnel and even players throwing fans off the pitch - Will there be any fun and games this time around.
